My name is Mr. De Leonardis and I teach in Berywn North School District 98. I have taught Art at Havlicek and Prairie Oak Elementary for four years. Teaching Art in Berwyn is one of my favorite things to do!
Besides teaching Art, I love creating art. I make paintings based on a journal I keep about my life. I carry my journal mostly everywhere I go so that I can make drawings and stories about where I go, what I’m thinking and people I meet. I also like taking pictures and making art on the computer. Making art in different types of ways is really cool because it makes me learn about new ways in expressing myself! Making art is one my favorite activities to do in my life.
My favorite food is pizza…I love pizza. My other best friend is chocolate. One time, I tried putting chocolate on my pizza…and it was amazing! I enjoy vegetables too, I pretend vegetables are candy…so I eat a lot them! I don’t really drink soda anymore, but I do drink coffee usually everyday. I try to only drink one cup of coffee a day. Besides coffee, I love cold water. I often wonder what is the taste of water? If you find out, let me know.
I enjoy traveling the world. Traveling is a way of meeting new types of people and seeing places that are different from what I’m familiar with in my life. It’s very fun to travel because I get to learn about all the different ways of life on this Earth! Traveling can be expensive, so during the school year I save all my money to use for the summer.
When I’m not making art, or teaching or traveling, I enjoy hanging out with my momma, my sister and my friends! When it’s nice out, I’ll ride my bike a lot! When it’s snowy out, I’ll get my sled and find a hill. And when it’s raining, I put my rain jacket on and listen to drops of water hit the ground! Watching movies and cooking with my friends is also really fun to do because we enjoy talking and experimenting with different types of food.
Teaching Art to students is one of best jobs in the world! Showing people that everyone has a creative mind is a difficult task but rewarding. The motto in my Art room is “AILAY”…Art Is Learning About Yourself. We need art to learn how we think, how we feel, how we communicate and most importantly how not to forget how to play! I remind my self that I’m still 14 years old with a couple extra chores and responsibilities.
